गाँव के सम्पन्न वर्ग में से
अधिकतर जातियाँ किसान थीं जिन्हें
देहात वाले खेतिहर किसान कहते हैं
केवल कुम्हार, कहार आदि जैसी जातियाँ
Among the prosperous class of the village, most castes were farmers whom the rural people call agricultural farmers. Only castes like kumhar, kahar etc.

थीं जिनको हम कामगार जातियाँ
कहते हैं। ये सब हमारे गाँव में
निम्नवर्गीय थीं। अकेले कुम्हार की
हालत तनिक अच्छी थी वह मिट्टी के
बर्तन से अपनी जीविका अर्जित करता था।
were there, whom we call working castes. All these were lower class in our village. Only the kumhar's condition was somewhat better - he earned his livelihood from clay pots.

अन्य निम्न जाति के लोगों के
परिवार के पुरुष
सम्पन्न वर्ग के यहाँ काम
करते थे। उनके बदले उन्हें पारिश्रमिक
नहीं मिलता। हमारे गाँव में वर्षभर
के मेहनत के बाद अन्न मिलता था। सभी परिवार
भोज के उत्सव पर मालिक के घर जाते
थे और वहाँ खाना खाते थे।
The men of other lower caste families worked at the homes of the prosperous class. In return, they did not receive wages. In our village, grain was given after a year's hard work. All families would go to the master's house during feast festivals and eat food there.
