But the one basic aim of This celebration is to propitiate Sakti to bestow upon you all wealth, auspiciousness, prosperity, Vidya > all other potent powers.
It commences on the 1st Sunday on the 10th day of the light half of Ashvin (Sept-oct.) It is held in Commemoration of the victory of Durga, consort of Lord Siva over Mahishasura, a buffalo headed Asura or demon.

गोव represents the Divien Mother. She is the energy aspect of the Lord. Without Durga, Siva has no expression and without siva, Durga has no existence. Siva is the soul of Durga. Durga is identical with Siva. Lord Siva is the only silent witness. He is unchangeable absolutely Changeless. He is not affected by the cosmic play. Durga does everything.
