Hist. of Prāg. Govinda Professor - Pp - VII - VIII.
It is narrated that Lichavis once asked Mandagal ayana out(?) of Udumbara, whether it was possible for them to subdue Ajatasatru, King of Magatha, when told in reply "men of "asbista's" race, ayon will conquer" 5 As many vashista's race were Kshatriyas, it may be taken that Licchavis were also kshatriyas. It is also known that Mahavir, the Jain head, who has admitted both taken as a Kshatriya, was related to Licchavis.
